I’m so sad that my great friend, Vin Garbutt, has died.
I first met Vin over 45 years ago at our college folk club in Bradford. As well as being a friend I feel privileged to have appeared on stage with him many times over the years in the UK and as far afield as Australia. Vin was truly unique. He was a tremendous entertainer, songwriter, comedian, raconteur and humanitarian. He genuinely cared about everyone. He had time for people, making them feel special and a little bit better about themselves. He was great company and as funny off stage as on.
Whenever we were due to meet I knew that I would come home with smile on my face and a new point of view about something going on in the world. It’s hard to believe that I won’t see that beaming smile of his again or be greeted with his usual cry of, “Pierre!”, together with a bear hug. I’ll miss you mate.
Thoughts with Pat, Emma, Tim, Louis and Katie.
