I did the first sessions for the new CD last August and had hoped it would be out by now. However, life never runs smoothly and one or two events got in the way. It’s strange how things turn out though, as I feel that I’ve written some cracking songs in the last couple of months that wouldn’t have made it on to the record if I had followed my planned schedule. It must be fate.
I’ve really enjoyed the recording sessions with sound engineer Chris Johnson (www.chris-johnson.info). It helps that he is a fellow guitarist, songwriter, performer and critical friend. I think that sometimes after writing a song, when it comes to recording and arranging it, you need someone who can listen to it objectively and be able to add that little spark of an idea that lifts the song on record. Well Chris is the man!
I’m at the stage now where all my guitar and vocal tracks are recorded and we’re ready for percussion, bass and other instruments to be added. Exciting times! Check back here for details about its release.
Performance wise some memorable gigs recently. I particularly enjoyed another night working with Sweet Baby James (www.sweetbabyjames.co.uk), this time at Helmsley Arts Centre. Bri Dales, SBJs guitarist and singer, is on tour as part of the great Ben E King band throughout August and September – well worth catching if you can. It was also good to be involved in a local community charity day at the Stapylton Arms in Eston – great performances from The Shea Family, Ellis Raynor, and the inimitable Bri Dales! A good day had by all and loads of money raised for local charities too.
