It’s always a pleasure to go back to my hometown of Bolsover to visit friends and family – especially when it’s combined with a gig at the pub which I have frequented for over 40 years. The Blue Bell, on the High Street, is a great old pub and the new tenants are really trying hard to bring it back to its heyday. I used to help run a folk club there back in the late 60s/early 70s – happy days. I’ll be back there on Saturday November 28th and hopefully it should be a sell out again.

I really enjoyed performing over the summer – The Stainsby Festival was blessed with sunshine and the Langdale Festival was the exact opposite – both had wonderful audiences though. The series, of “We Shall Overcome”, gigs inspired by Joe Solo, to my mind echoed the spirit of the 60s protest movement. Joe – what a performer. If you have a social conscience – go and see him – he makes you think as well as entertain. Not a bad combination in my opinion – joesolomusic.com.
The growth of local stations having a folk show is a welcome development and here in the North East we seem to be well served. Here’s a couple to check out in the NE and a little farther afield including Canada…
