What a great time Doreen and I had at our 60th Birthday Party. It was wonderful to see a room full of family and friends.
A strictly folk free event – Bri Dales provided the entertainment – he’s a class act. He bravely allowed me to join him and give my Stratocaster and Telecaster a rare outing (played with more enthusiasm than skill). I chose songs that brought back some special times…. “Brown Sugar”, got the old college crowd on the dance floor; “Mustang Sally”, gave the boppers a chance to join in on the Ride Sally Ride bits; “Hi Ho Silver Lining”, had a real 70s vibe with lots of fifty and sixty year olds waving their arms about – very entertaining to watch from the stage. The best however was the “2-4-6-8 Motorway”, duet with my brother Ian – he came out of retirement as a singer after 30 years – nice one Bruv. Note to myself for 2014 – get the electric guitars out more.
Try and get to The Village Hall Acoustic monthly gig at Ingleby Greenhow. I played there recently with Nick and Michelle of Plumhall – wonderful duo – hopefully Michelle will be adding some harmonies to my new CD. Exciting times.
I was invited by my mate Vin Garbutt to the studio recently to listen to tracks for his next CD and to offer advice! Wow, what an honour. Interesting to see how laid back he is in the studio – almost horizontal. I’ll be doing a pre-Christmas gig with Vin on Teesside – always one of the highlights of the season. Get yourself there.
Looking forward way into 2014 I’m pleased to be doing a gig as part of Edinburgh Fringe at the Wee Folk Club on Saturday 16th August. I did the club earlier this year – great place to play.
